About Commissioner Blake Hooper

Blake shows up when people need it most

A lifelong Petaluma resident and graduate of UC Santa Cruz, people trust Blake because he shows up for them. For years, Blake has been a dedicated advocate for Petalumans, helping people get the support they need: navigating wildfire recovery, public health crises, housing instability, and broken processes. Blake has worked at all levels of government, most recently for Congressman Huffman and now at the California State Senate, while also serving on Petaluma’s Planning Commission, Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee, and Transit Advisory Committee. Blake and his wife Iliana met through their shared commitment to service. They’re known as the “dynamic duo” because they do their best work for the community together.

About Petaluma's District 5

One of two west side districts

District 5 is in Petaluma's southwest reaches, and is a park-filled residential area with schools as well as some community services, businesses, and retail establishments. District 5 is on the west side of the River, bounded by D Street, 10th Street, Fair Street, and Western Avenue; past those streets is District 6. Petaluma High School as well as Grant and McNear Elementary are in District 5, and its many parks include Helen Putnam Regional Park, Walnut Park, Grant Park, McNear Park, Wickersham Park, West Haven Park, and Westridge Park.

I’m committed to creating the housing we need so working families can afford to live and age in place in Petaluma. We need to shift the way we think and work together to build better in the space we already have. We must prioritize an affordable cost of living in Petaluma beyond just housing.

Protecting Our Environment and Agricultural Heritage

Petaluma is surrounded by rich natural beauty, and we need to play our part in protecting it as the climate changes. We must protect our urban growth boundary and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Our leaders must have the dedication and speed to meet this moment.

Building an Economy for the Future, While Honoring Our Past

Petaluma faces an important juncture. The decisions that we make for the next four years will shape our town for decades to come. We need the courage to ask tough questions, listen to all opinions, and work together to build opportunities so the Petaluma of the future honors our rich history. We can do this!
